Whoa, there fella!

Congratulations on starting your pilot training. I, for one, love the 1965 models...I have one, too. Unless you're a mechanic, I fear that, without a great prebuy inspection, you'll end up spending more on this one than you would if you bought a nice, flyable plane.

As a new pilot, I wouldn't get too worried about transitioning to a glass panel in the future. You'll have specific training for that upgrade. Lot's of people learned to fly in the early Cessna 120/140/150 planes with no problems.

On your question about the motor needing to be overhaulled...condition is everything. Just because it's 6 months out of annual, it shouldn't have any adverse effects. There again, an annual and a good prebuy are definitely in order.
