In my meandering journey to Brady, TX, I decided to drop into Bolivar, TN, home of
TN Wings [
tnwings.com].
I'm here to add my voice to the chorus of praise we've all heard about them. Shelby and his mom couldn't have been nicer to me, and their workmanship (as evidenced by the various projects in the hangar) is outstanding.
In my case, I'm looking for new carpet for my plane. The straight-tail 150's have quite a different floorboard setup than the later models, so getting the right carpet to fit right can be a chore.
I talked to Shelby previously and he suggested I make up some patterns using heavy paper and mail them to him. Following a russian engineer's advice on prototypes that said the bigger the model the better, and full-size models are best, I decided to bring him the whole plane instead. Which was a good idea. Shelby's mom spent several hours with me as we pulled the seats, panels and carpeting, then discussed various ideas and layouts - things I would've never thought to ask through the mail. She now has a full set of patterns, and my only task left is to pick a color. Time to bring my sweetie into the decision-making process.
