You know, its always amazed me that you guys up there continue to paint your rego numbers into the aircrafts paint scheme (i.e. they are part of the scheme itself) in the form of either stopping a stripe and leaving a gap, or widening a strip to take the numbers fit down the side of the fuse
Down here, the aircrafts paint scheme is usually quite a separate item from the rego number itself and how its presented and hence, if you want to change numbers, it's no big deal. Most these days are just vinyl stuck on lettering, just peel it off and apply another one in its place.
