Got line on handles too.
When I was a mechanic we would remove the handle assemble and have the flexible material between the hardware replaced at an interior shop. New, better material. According to AC43 " an equivilent material can be used" Leather can be substituted if it treated with a FAA Approved fire retardent. We had a very good interior shop at SJC. The use of wool and leather is leagal if done properly.
