This I believe is the reason why you can easily find manuals older than 1976 floating around the internet. It's also the reason why the 150 parts manuals are easily found, but much harder to find a 152 parts manual.
Cessna copyrights their manuals, but has offered their Parts Manuals for free (presumably to make it easier to sell more parts). Service Manuals, on the other hand, must be purchased.
