Carl you might have that backwards. The dip stick on my 0-320 is aluminum and the filler tube is plastic, his is more than likely the same way. If the top of his filler tube is cracked allowing the stick to "jump the threads" he is gonna have to replace the tube. Which on a Lycoming is a pretty easy job.
