California has the same or similar type of tax, but it's called an Unscheduled Personal Property Tax.

It's a little over 1% of the assessed valuation, every year.

I paid it for years on boats. It was expensive - over $1800 a year - on my last boat.

Good news is that it takes a while for the Tax Assessor to realize that you have bought something that the tax applies to.

This is especially true with items that do not have to be "registered" in the state, like documented vessels.

And I'm hoping PLANES, too..

Nah, not around here! The Airport Commission hands over a list of aircraft based here, yearly. I imagine I'll get busted this time around. frown
