So, my 150 that I bought last month had an engine from a float plane installed in it it seems some years ago. It has the oil cooler option installed in it. I was told by my A&P that I don't need it and as it turns out, doesn't have a 355(?) for the modification. He said he thought it was a pretty hot item as people might be interested in it. I don't know. I don't have a lot of experience in that area. So, does anyone have any info about where I might be able to sell this thing? It's the cooler and the mechanical pump from the engine. I'm living under the thought that you never know unless you ask.

Since the oil cooler was an option, chances are they're original Cessna parts and as such you wouldn't need a 337. Anyone wanting to buy it and install it on their C-150 would only need a logbook entry by the mechanic doing the install.

Hi Andy,

Welcome aboard, this is a great club for us owners or potentials owners. I'm not sure where you fly out of, but why wouldn't you just keep it installed? It doesn't hurt sitting there, doesn't cost a bunch of money, and on those very hot days when you're trying to climb, it'll help cool the oil. It might need to be flushed out once in a while, but that's about it. Why wouldn't your mechanic do up a form for it? It is an approved part as an option for these motors, 0-200's.

Most of, if not all of my flying is in Northern BC, so I don't really need it, but I do remember flying through Arizona and New Mexico,, I was wishing I had it on then!

Welcome aboard, Andy!

Cessna factory oil coolers in 150's are rare, as not many floatplane 150's were ever built. I would add one to mine, if I got the chance, but then I'd have to use the Continental oil filter adapter that I don't like (I use the one that replaces the oil cooler adapter). Recheck your logbook entry for the engine installation, and if there's mention of installing the Cessna 150 floatplane oil cooler according to Cessna documentation, then you're probably good to go. No 337 required on at least 1967 and up 150's (1967 was the first 150 floatplane offering).

Lionel, the oil cooler was a Cessna addition, not Continental. If a 337 was required (it isn't unless the airframe is older than 1967), it would be for the airframe, not the engine.

Welcome Andrew...

I actually have an Oil Cooler on my Aerobat - that said however, the engine in my Aerobat came from a Victor Airtourer (oohhhh, and my 0-200 is stamped "Rolls Royce" - ah, a bit of luxury in a 150)so, the way I understand it the whole thing was swapped into my aircraft. I haven't noticed anything in the log books about the Oil Cooler listed separately, but I'll go have a look.

Next time I am down the airport, I'll try to remember to get some photo's of the installation. For now though, for inquiring minds, it sits behind the baffling on the LHS of the engine.

Hi all!! Thanks for the replies!! THis is a GREAT club! Some more info....

1) The engine is in a 1975 150M. The oil cooler is out and in a box.

2) I just bought the plane last month and am flying it for the first time since the test flight Tuesday.

3) I am in Oregon.

4) Matt! LOVE SYDNEY!! My wife and I spend our 10X anniversaries there!
