Bottom line if you have not done this before or don't have someone knowedgable to help you through the paperwork part, an escrow might be worth the $500 (which I believe probably included the title fee, so that is all in).

My word of advice? Just finance the airplane through AOPA. Then you will be assured everything is done correctly!

Man oh man....

I knew it... I knew it... I just KNEW it!!!!

Sorry to tell ya, but it looks like ole Gary got the best end 'o' this deal, Bill. Yep. Got to fly a super beefed-up bird cross-country, across some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere.

Man, I tell ya - maybe I shoulda said something was wrong here and there on the bird, and Gary could have made a tweek here, a turn there, and

VOILA!!!

No tellin' what a pocket rocket you would've ended up with.

One thing's for sure - you had the best man for the job - a great pilot, a great wrench, and one helluva great guy.

I agree. You can actually do all of this stuff yourself, but AOPA escrow makes it real easy. For me, I didn't have the time to devote to all of it, so it was well worth the cost.

Maybe to reinforce what other folks had to say and maybe just because we all like a good story - here is a follow-up:

I'm the guy you initially outbid. As you probably know a few days after talking with you the seller called me back, admitted that he felt bad about breaking our hand shake deal and re-offered me the airplane. I was a little uncomfortable but figured anyone can make a mistake (from my point of view) and said OK. He took a deposit and we agreed on language in a P&S.

During the process a number of log irregularities and title issues came up. A few weeks went by and yesterday he informed me that he had found another buyer willing to ignore the log and title problems and that he was backing out of the agreement (he hadn't signed the P&S yet).

I figure I'm probably better off in the long run but I think the important points are:

- don't ignore the title search, log issues, pre-buy etc.
- if things smell a little fishy, they probably are
- don't be in too big a hurry

Anyway, I'm back to the search.

Greg,
Where in Ma are you? I live in Ma at the Ma-RI-Ct area
and am based at North Central (SFZ) in RI.
There is a nice 152 next to mine for sale. Will have to
find out the price. Also know of a 150 in Newport for sale.

I'll change it up a little:

Quote

- if things smell a little fishy, they probably are
- if it don't feel right, RUN, don't walk

When my partner & I were hunting, we ran from several. We still ended up putting 5 grand in our plane the first year...do your due diligence!

Oh, have you had someone else (like Ron Stewart who lives nearby) look this plane over?

I'm also from MA, rent out of KORH at the moment. When I make a purchase I'll probably base at 3B0(Southbridge). I would also be interested in the 152 at North Central. The 150 at Newport I think was on the market last year also.

Greg
I'd be interested in hearing more about your trials and tribulations of searching for a plane.

There is a super nice 150, I think a m model, for sale here in Hot Springs. Low times total and engine with a very slick new paint job that was about 5K. He started out asking 25K for it, but he has lost his medical and will probably take an offer. I'll try to get some details and photos.
