Yeah, I get told to "get real" quite a lot!

I have had a bunch of calls and emails about the SportHawk.

Many are only interested in that odd and wonderful contraption known as a Cessna 150/150. They want to know, some in great detail, about the performance and cost of doing the conversion. After answering a few performance questions I direct them the Club so that they can get the detailed low down on the ins and outs of doing the conversion.

A large number of the tire kickers inquire initially if I am willing to come down on the price. Usually shortly after I respond in the negative or ask them if they would like to make an offer the conversation ends.

Some of the prospects have been real characters.

One guy drove his BMW all the way from Virginia to look at the airplane. I figured that he was really a live one. I took him for a demonstration flight and offered the controls to him. He demurred and only requested that I make a second crosswind landing for him. We have talked a couple of times on the phone but he informed me that while he wanted the plane that some sort of financing deal had his money tied up and that if someone came along with money to sell the plane. I assured him that I would do exactly that.

Another gentleman wanted me to fly the plane to Stillwater, OK (close to 400 miles) for him to look at it. I was considering doing it until he told me that if he liked the plane that he would buy it and get a buddy of his to fly me home in his Bonanza. I immediately mentally wrote him off. I asked why not just get his pal to fly him to midland in his forked tail wonder and fly the SportHawk home.

I have had at least ten prospects tell me that they would call me back after they figured out how to get a pre-purchase inspection done or after they had arranged financing. An airplane shopper that doesn?t have the money lined up is a tire kicker.

The most entertaining was a gentleman from Ohio that called while Ann was in the car with me. I answered the phone on the hands free and she was able to hear both sides of the conversation. (I sure am glad because she would have never believed what was going on the other end of the line.) The guy was obviously airplane savvy and asked a lot of good questions. When he asked where Midland is and I told him he opined that the distance was too great for him to consider trying to buy the plane. He then abruptly changed the subject by asking if I liked accordion music. Trying to be cordial I told him that accordions and bag pipes are near the top of my favorite list. He then informed me that he was ?down here? practicing on his new electronic accordion, which he plays at rest homes to entertain the inmates. He then proceeded to pay an accordion solo for us. Well Ann just lost it and laughed out loud. I guess that my bride?s outburst must have hurt the musician?s feelings because he quickly ended the conversation. Ann giggled all of the way home. Now if I want to get a laugh out her all I have to do is to ask ?Want to here some accordion music??.

I will almost be sorry when the guy hands me the money and buys the SportHawk. I am having way too much fun.

Gotta love it - wish I had the free cash to pick up Whiskey Whiskey - it's a creampuff if there was one... Mary Lou does need a brother.
