Hi. I'm looking for a gust/control lock for a 1972 150L. The L model has a horizontal hole through the yoke. I've been searching eBay and elsewhere and I can't even seem to come up with what the correct model # would be.

But if anyone has one they'd be willing to sell, OR if even you're good at fashioning one from materials, I'd be open to that as well. I'm not even sure what the official L-model gust lock looks like. I'm sure I'll be investing in a rudder lock later on too, but for now I'm looking for a gust lock to start. Thanks!

Kristian,

I would check with Preferred Air Parts in Ohio for this part. I purchased mine from them for a reasonable price; NEW. Ron.

Thanks! I’ll give them a call. Do you by chance have a photo of what yours looks like? I’m also just curious as to what one actually looks like for a Lima model.

While you’re at it you might want to consider a Tally-Lok Rudder Gust as an additional to your gust/control lock. The gust/control lock does not stop the rudder from getting slammed around. See them at AirCraft Spruce. I have an M model but will try and take a picture of the gust lock tonight.

Yep! The Rudder gust lock is also on my list, but I already know how and where to get one of those, and they don't differ based on model.

Thanks for posting the photo of your M model gust luck, but unfortunately it's different than my '72 L model. Your M-model has a gust lock that is vertical, whereas on mine it's horizontal. That's why I'm specfically looking for other L-model gust locks. It's crazy how there's different variations.

I bought one from this seller on eBay for my J which also has horizontal holes. They don’t have one listed right now but you might be able to message them to see if they can make one up for you.

My A&P made my control lock, just some bent rod and a flag. Maybe your A&P would do this as well?

Here is a simple homemade one as seen at this year’s Fly-in.

That's a simple and functional one. But I would make it to insert from left to right, with the "Remove Before Flight" tag hanging down and covers the ignition key hole. Makes it harder to forget to remove it.
