I bought a new lighter adapter for my pilot III for 18.99 from Cobelas sporting goods last Fall. Look up the 22-1776 Garmin GPS Accessories CIG LIGHTER ADAPTER. Its for the GPS V model which is the same system as our Pilot III's. Works great.

Gentlemen,
I've got the power cord. What I need is the cig. lighter! It was pulled out of my plane due to the AD that came out because it wasn't on a fuse. It looks like I can get the hardware pretty cheap and my A&P says less than an hour labor. Probably worth it not just in terms of batteries but safety, particularly for night flying to keep the unit backlit. Apparently less than $100 including install.

Look at the lazy susan parts boards at an auto parts store, they will have complete lighter sockets, and I can assure you that Cessna didn't use anything special, just a regular automotive unit.

If you really want to stay perfectly legal, the complete lighter socket/lighter element assembly is.......
