If he's already got the PMA, it shouldn't be too difficult to have carbon fiber approved. Of course, those would likely have to be baked, where the fiberglass doesn't. Vacuum bagging, an oven, more overhead! Would carbon fiber be worth it at twice (speculated) the cost?
