The RV-12 looks like a very nice airplane. But, be cautious Dale. The RV-12 is classified as S-LSA. Meaning that you must build it exactly to manufacturers specifications. No deviation without manufacturer approval. It must be maintained specifically to manufacturers instruction.
You're half correct. It has to be
built exactly per manufacturer specs. However, once it has been certified, you can modify it anyway you want. Read the posts in the

vansairforce.com] about all the mods people have made or plan to make to their RV-12s.
P.S. S-LSAs (Special LSAs) are aircraft built by the manufacturers. The ones built by amateur builders (based on the S-LSAs) are called E-LSA (Experimental LSAs).
