I used to pay annual property tax on my plane, about 5% ($1000 on a $20K plane). Thankfully it's tax-exempted when over 30 yrs old.

Really? Checking my local tax laws now. Unfortunately, I don't think that applies where I live.
P.S. My rate isn't that high. As I recall, I pay around $300 on a "$24K" or so value plane. Last year the assessor goofed and did not bill me or possibly other plane owners. I was told not to worry about it. I verified I am not in arrears.
