Last week on a cross country, the CDI wasn't moving. The To/From bar would go up and down a little, but the needle didn't move.
I'll have to check with my son to see what nav/com is in the plane currently.
Sounds like you need to have an avionics tech look at it. Welcome to the fa$$cinating world of airplane owner$$hip.

When I bought my plane, the attitude indicator was crapped out. I took it to an FBO repair facility. They removed it, sent it to a place called the Gyro House somewhere here in California to have it rebuilt, and then reinstalled it. Cost me somewhere about $750. I'd be surprised if you get away much cheaper than that for either your DG or CDI problems (unless it's something easy like a loose wire or something).
