Recently I posted a question about replacing my landing lights. I mentioned an eBayer who was selling GE 4509 (for 67 era 150?s check your manual). Anyway, this seller had them listed for $7.99 each and you could buy in quantity.

I thought I?d relate my experience:

At $7.99 each I purchased 6 of the lights. Seller offered $6.00 shipping flat rate. My cost was therefore $47.94 + 6.00=$53.94, paid via Paypal (no cost to me). This seller "Lights64", has 5,171 ebay transactions with a 99.8% positive feedback rating. I was comfortable making the buy with him.

The lights arrived a few days later and I installed one over the weekend. Aviation light, (says so), factory new in sealed box and most importantly it worked.

I compared my ?deal of a lifetime? with Aircraft Spruce and used their price and a quote from UPS online to figure costs. A/C Spruce was $9.95 each.
Thus: $9.95*6=59.70 plus UPS Ground $6.78=$66.48 total.

Savings = $12.54

I thought I?d send this along in case you like to buy in quantities and save a buck or two. Worked for me.

At one time I looked into buy the 28v landing light for my 152 on Ebay. Factoring in the shipping cost, the saving was only about 50 cents per bulb. I ended up ordering them along with oil filters from Chief Aircraft. Each year, my plane uses 3 oil filters and (average) two landing light bulbs.

I purchased my 76 150M in January 03. It came with the landing light that worked and is still working. 200 hrs later I use it in the pattern and nearing airports and takeoffs etc.. I have never had to replace it. I assume it is the standard GE aviation bulb. Don't see any log entries as to specific prior replacements. This seems strange to me or am I just lucky?

Was it ever turned on ? Boy, that is just phenomenal. I'd be happy to get more than 50 hrs from the nose-mounted landing light of my 152.

My 1967 150G has over 7 years on the taxi light and I just replaced the landing light after 6 years because it was cracked.

The wing mounted lights seem to last much longer than those in the cowls. My 74 150L used to burn out lights at least once a year.

I turn it on for every landing at airports, on lakes or fields. It makes me more visable to boats and snowmobiles as well as aircraft. Also run it in high traffic areas altho there are not many of these in Maine.
