Six or seven years ago while I was working at my PPL, I bought two headsets. A super cheap matching pair of Telex Echelon 100's. I always wanted to upgrade to more expensive and "better" headsets, but could never justify doing so. The Echelons have proven reliable.
Then Dale comes on board here and says he has two sets of David Clarks in which he will give away for shipping costs! Wow! Real David Clarks! For basically free! Who could turn this deal down? So I snatched them up.
I finally got to get some air time today. I finally was going to get to try out my "superior" David Clark's! All giddy with excitement!
First, the DC model H10-80's went on. Hmm.........not really that comfy...........a little big and won't adjust down to my head.............sound not all that great........let's wear them a while............ gotta get better.............Hey, they are David Clark's, right?............Don't get any better................kinda disappointed.
Ok, now the DC H10-20's................... Well............... a little more comfortable................but still not that comfy..............Sound is stil more clear than the H10-80's.........but not that much better...................Hmmm...................Despair! .........................Disappointment!
Back go on the ol 100's..................AHHHHHH.........fit my head.........supports all across the top of my head.....................comfy..............quieter................nice clear reception..................HMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Our cheapie $110 per pair Telex Echelon 100's proved superior to David Clark's! Just proves that name and expense does not always provide a better product.
So, Scott, it looks like you are going to get a pair of DC's, if you still want them. I'll drop you an email with the information you will require. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 4 Member/15,000 posts | | Member/15,000 posts Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 4 | Hey, Bill! I came to the same conclusion years ago with my cheapy FlightComs, but the guys who spent 3 times (or more) over what I did for "quality" didn't want to hear about it! It's their money! Noise cancelling? Probably a different story. I Don't know! I'm deaf anyway! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 607 Member/500+posts | | Member/500+posts Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 607 | I've been using Soft Comm "Red Baron" units for years. They are cheapos, but the noise reduction is on a par with everyone else.
They've been on my head for up to 13 hours a day. Nice.

How DC stays in business, I don't know, unless it's through government contracts or something. I haven't personally known anyone in several years who bought new DCs.

( I still like to hear some of the flight sounds). | | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 13,969 Member/10,000+ posts! | | Member/10,000+ posts! No problem, Dale. Lesson learned. Be happy and content with what one has! Hopefully they will now be going to a needed home with Scott? Though, still have a Sparrowhawk to get out of my system! | | |
