A loran, tray and wiring should be nearly free on eBay. The loran has little to no value...except to someone who already has one and likes it, even though they're still a decent form of electronic navigation.

I may have one you are welcome to....I have an old Loran in LuluBelle that I have no interest in keeping and would like to free up the radio stack.

I think I have a tray that you can have for free. Just pay the shipping.

Let me check at the airport tonight or tomorrow, and I'll let you know.

I friend of mine has removed his Northstar M1A LORAN receiver from his Beechcraft. I believe he also has the tray, cable, and antenna (I'll double check).

Before installing an Apollo LORAN receiver, consider that there are no database updates for the Apollo.

However, you can still upgrade the database on the M1A, and there are zillions of spare M1A units for sale on eBay, and there is a company --- CMC Electronics -- that still supports the M1A (for now at least).

Also, the U.S. government has continued its support of the LORAN system. So ... this would be a CHEAP and very useful piece of 1980s technology for anyone interested in installing it.

I have an M1A in my plane, and I bought a spare for $40 on eBay.

Contact me if anyone is GENUINELY interested in installing an M1A in their plane. I might be able to get you one -- receiver, tray, cable, and antenna -- for nothin'.

I just ordered the eight database EPROMs for my old (bit still working and supported) Northstar M1A LORAN receiver. Not cheap, either. $240 shipped.

It's getting more and more difficult to even find Northstar information on the CMC website. I figured I'd get the EPROMs while they are still available. The current point of contact to purchase these EMPROMs at CMC is Johanne Millette.

Who knows who, if anyone, will be in charge after a while. Support has died for the M3 GPS, it's hanging on by a thread for the M1.
