Welcome, Murray!

I am only about (or "a boot" for you Canadians) two months ahead of you in plane ownership for the first time, although I have been flying rentals for 35 + years.

Bought a 1975 Commuter basically over the Internet, with a little help from some pics and a very nice and honest former owner. He even flew it about 800 miles from Washington State to Central California to deliver it to me.

Any questions on re-hab of the interior (where I have spent most of my money so far) don't hesitate to ask, or read my recent posts on that subject, which are fairly detailed w/pics.

Bon chance finding a plane!

Hi Paul,

Good to know. I'm combing through "buyers/sellers" looking for hints and tips when I'm not looking for that perfect used airplane. [I also buy lottery tickets]

Sounds like you're happy with yours. I'll go look at the pics

I find it curious that the strong good advice is " get prebuy or annual inspection first, but lots of folks just do it when they find the plane that seems good. It would be fun to know the percentage of folks that do that and the success rate.

Hi Murray,

No. The fellow I had in mind who was selling his 150 has changed his mind. It's not for sale.

If I hear of anything else Murray, I'll let you know.

Thanks Avery,

I'm not rushing.
Flying is slowing up down here. The FBO where I rent is not as keen to rent this time of year... and as soon as there is a big snow fall, they close the runway until spring. The closest runway open year around is CYFC which is 1.6 hr. away by car. Slightly faster by C150

Murray:

Take a look at "Please allow me to introduce myself..." and the subsequent posts to it (by Joanne J.) in "Piloting" around the second week of October, I believe.

Good advice there in re plane purchasing.

Pre-buy inspections are addressed. Sort of a mixed bag on their worth.

Mine stressed that I hoped she would LIKE the plane that she ends up buying.

Since all of them are old, you are going to have to throw some $$ at any one you get, sooner or later. Market forces (e.g. SMOH time) will take care of the price for the most part at any particlar point in time,

I said I hoped that she did not approach the process entirely as a clinical exercise, but managed to have fun, too!

Paul,

Thanks for pointing out that thread, it had several good posts, which I won't point out specifically, not wanting to leave anyone out. wink

After reading a ton of postings in the last week or so, my comfort level is higher than it was, and things are about as clear as they ever get. I am amazed at the time folks will take to make sure new folks have this information (...I'm sure not always for the first time).

Cheers
