I am looking for a pair of ash trays for my 150M. I went to Cessnaparts.com and for part no. S1957-2 they list them for $489.60 EACH! OK, I'm not smokin' that kind of stuff, and I don't smoke anyway. I want them for storing a few patch cords for my MP3 player and cell phone.
I have a pair now, but they are very used (thus not installed) . Does anyone have a really nice pair they would be willing to sell, or any ideas on cleaning up the ones I have, or an optional replacement?
Hey Wayne, i've had a few large parts (car bumpers and such) rechromed, and a number of large parts (truck wheels and such) powder coated, and i've gotta believe you can drop your set of trays off at a local shop and have them replated to better than new for $100. Perhaps don't volunteer that the trays are for an airplane. Not sure about any impact the E.P.A. might be having on the east coast platers, what with the heavy metals issue. I guess the cost of disposal of the heavy metals caused a number of shops to close up. Seems we still had quite a few platers on the west coast last time i needed one about 3 years ago.
Might be worth a quick browse through the phone book for ya. I think it might be the way to get new trays for waaaay cheaper.
I tried finding some black plastic ones like in my wife's Nissan Pathfinder, but the same size as the Cessna ones, but no luck. Like I said, I just want to use the space to store some patch cords for easy access.
They're rusty on the inside however, I can bead blast and paint the inside. Better yet, I can bead blast and prime the inside and you can paint them whatever color you want. The chrome is not perfect but not to bad.
I never thought about painting them. Would painting the outside black work over old Chrome?
I'll make you a deal, if you bead blast them and paint the inside black, I buy your drinks one night at Clinton. We can trade drinks for ash trays when we get there.
