Hi Everyone,

Urgently required!! Our left gear leg is beyond repair. Can anybody assist with an airworthy replacement?

Regards

Darryn

Scour the bone yards...hard to tell if any private owners will have a single leg laying around. good luck.

Exactly. The members that own 150H's are likely to be using their gear legs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Darryn,

I have no idea what part of the country you're in, but I've
been to this yard and was impressed with how they do business.

Hi everyone,

To answer your question, I'm in New Zealand. There are only around 10 C150Hs in NZ. Our CAA is very tight on corrosion on these spring leaf legs after a C206 suffered a collapse on landing thanks to corrosion under the foot step. That prompted the CAA to instruct maintenance organisations to carry out corrosion checks under the step. Sadly our left leg was corroded beyond limits and our aeroplane now resides in a hangar on jacks until we find a replacement. A number of NZ C150s were found with similar problems hence the lack of spares available in this country.

A word of advice to club members - remove the step and check for corrosion - it seems there is not much tolerance before failure of the leg may occur.

Regards

Darryn

Hi Darryn,

Sorry, I forgot we talked before!

Every american pilot should experience the visibility in New Zealand. Very beautiful country. I should have told you that I spent 3 months in Christchurch during "Operation Deep Freeze '72" with the U.S. Navy. (Please don't hold that against me, I wasn't the typical Yank!)

Does the CAA recognize American "Yellow Tags"? I'll contact a couple of salvage yards near me and see what they'd charge to ship a good leg to New Zealand. Send me your aircraft serial number, just to be sure, although I'm sure the flat legs are all the same.

--------------------------

Update: I've E-mailed 2 Florida yards and 1 in Ohio that may have a used gear leg. I checked the Cessna dealors on the web for comparison prices, and they don't have any in stock, as you've doubtless found out. I couldn't get a price listing. I'll post the results as soon as I hear something from the others.

Carl

Darryn,

I got a quote back from "Preferred Airparts", an authorized Cessna Parts Dealor: p/n 0441186-1, USED, .....$886.20(USD) I've no idea what that will convert to in New Zealand Dollars, but it ain't cheap, mate! And it doesn't include shipping! Still waiting on the other quotes, which experience tells me won't be much cheaper.

Hi Carl,

Thanks so much for your assistance - I really appreciate it!!

It looks as if we may have found a set in California - just awaiting photos to verify how they look under the steps. This guy wants US$500 for the one leg so we'll wait and see. Beggars cannot be choosers I guess.

Thanks once again for your help - will keep you "posted".

Regards

Darryn
