They look like great protection, and will definately keep off all that road dust you get. It'll be interesting to hear how your cover system works with the whole melting and freezing process.

Kyle, so far, when taking them off on a frozen morning (20F) they seemed to come off pretty easily, though I do go slowly as not to tear the fabric.

Time will tell, of course, but so far so good for this winter. I have a smaller travel cockpit cover I can use on X-C's if need be, but not as robust.

A friend of mine on our field just had an undetected leak get so bad the water pooled around his transponder and fried it. Apparently, the small holes on the bottom of the fuselage clogged and the water collected.

As we got to talking, we realized this could have been more serious - think about several gallons of water back there...the implications for CG shifting are alarming. MM

Covers are great, I have a set and love them. One caution is the one on the windshield. Make sure it is super tight so it doesn't chafe on the plexi when windy.

I just got my cabin cover from www.airplane-covers.com [airplane-covers.com] too! I still haven't had a chance to go to the airport to put it on but it looks nice workmanship. A lot less expensive than some of the other covers, too. I'll post a picture when I put it on.

No issues with freezing where I live. I just hope the material lasts more than a couple of years in the harsh Texas sun. I got the sunbrella material since it is supposed to last a little longer.

If you ask nicely they'll throw in embroidering one N number. There's also a code to get a 10% discount that they put on a little postcard with the shipment. I don't have it with me, but I'll pass it along to anyone interested.

Henry,

Looking forward to your photos...

I was in Abiline, TX for a few years...we had very bad hail out there...scariest part of owning a car or plane!

I considered the "hail resistant" covers another place was offering - they were padded by about 1/4 inch or so...enough to combat the small stuff, but not the big hits. Is this a problem in your part of Texas?

If I move back there, I would HAVE to have a shade hanger, at least! MM

Yes, hail can be a problem. We're on the edge of the area that gets the bad stuff, but it can still happen. The farther north you go the worse it gets, with grapefruit-size hail not too unusual.

Fortunately I got my plane pre-hailed (it already has some hail damage on the wings), so only the big stuff would be a concern and that is less common around these parts here.

Hey, don't they put dimples on golf balls to make them fly faster? If I get big hail, the insurance will likely end up taking the plane. Not optimum, but I haven't found a decent hangar yet. Waiting lists are long around here, and hangars are $300-$600/month compared to $400/YR tie-down where I'm at.

$400 a YEAR?!

Man, you are lucky!

Our hangers are $400 a month, and tie-down is $70 a month, or $840 a year! No power, water or air...and you provide your OWN tie down ropes. MM

Holy Cow! I am SO lucky. If I pay for a year in advance, my T-hangar is $85/month. (Move to Lincoln!)

I must say, your plane in that 1st picture is cute. Reminds me of my grandson in overcoat, fur cap, and mittens!

Don't start this again! eek smile

I pay $75/month for a tie down, and just like Mike, no power or nothin'! They do provide tie down ropes, though, if you want to trust your plane to the 15-20 year old ropes they have (I went ahead and changed out the ropes myself).

Oh, and there are no reserved spaces, either. Theoretically, I can go flying and someone else could be in the spot with my new ropes! I put some traffic cones on my spot, and that seems to "trick" people into thinking I have a reserved spot.

Oh man that's harsh! at least for my $150 a month I get crappy old ropes, no power and all the jet jerks I can stand but at least my spot is 'sorta' reserved... huge iguana's excepted...

Oh, that is just WRONG, John! You don't even get to keep your spot while out on a X-C? Holy Cow, that IS crummy! MM
