Sorry for the bad news but I'd hate for you to ship it all that way just to find out it won't work. Been there, done that.

Mine's a '68, not a '73 or newer.

I'm confused. The tail on my plane looks like the one in the 1968 C-150-H brochure, and in the parts manual. And, this doesn't look the same as Terrry's. Does it?

I'd bet a $5 bill that it's the same. You DO have the short tail. What I believe is confusing the issue is the fact that you still have the fairings on either side on the bottom of your stabilizer and the fairing leading up to the leading edge.

Take some measurements and confirm what I think wink

Mark, I missed this thread until now, and answered the question in the other one! Measure the back edge of both stabs. If they measure the same, they are interchangeable.

Terry's is missing the plastic cap where the beacon mounts, that is why it looks different. They are both the short fin. On the later models with the tall fin, the leading edge (below the plastic cap) extends well above the main body of the fin. On the short fin, like yours or Terry's, the leading edge basically stops at the same point as the rest of the fin.

Take your foil wrapped plastic cap, beacon, and VOR antenna off and it will look like Terry's.

The taller fin was introduced at serial 15075782 (beginning of the 1975 150M models) All '66 thru end of '74 use the same part number fin.

Thanks, you're right. I see now that Terry's would have worked, but I did not take Terry up on his generous offer. My loss.

Instead, purchased a fin from a local salvage place -- Faeth of Sacramento -- for surprisingly cheap at $300. It should arrive Tuesday.

I did not think I would be replacing the tail fin of my airplane, but I guess that's what paint stripping and inspecting are all about...finding problems like this. My old fin was compromised near the bottom rudder hinge. It would have driven me crazy knowing this piece was rotting away. So, I'm fixing it.
