You don't need an AI unless you intend to fly IFR. MY AI was also TU when I purchased my plane. I had a mechanic install an overhauled one in short order -- a few days and several hundred dollars later.

Hello, Dan, and welcome to the club. I fly a '65 E model 150. I have no navigation radios. I'm strictly VFR with a transponder and single comm. I don't fly IMC in the 150. So, I do not have an operable directional gyro or attitude indicator. I don't even have an operable vacuum pump. What would it drive? Nothing. That hasn't stopped me from flying all over the country anyway.

So, vacuum systems and IFR instrumentation may come along later. But, for now, enjoy flying your new baby. Congratulations.

I'm learning as I get older that simpler is better. My C-150 fits that criteria. Thanks for the info, folks!

I'm getting older, too, Dan and I agree with you! Life is complicated enough without adding to it.
