Hi all, I'm a new member and just beginning my search for a 150. I've been toying with the idea of a purchase over the past couple of years and just now getting serious. This looks like a great resource and I've already been using a couple of the searches. Like most folks, I'm a bit anxious about getting a pre-buy done on planes that aren't local (I'm in Houston, TX). I'm hoping to get some help from you all.

I of course want a bird that's mechanically sound and in descent shape, but to get picky I want a straight tail with just a VFR panel. HD nose gear and shoulder harnesses would be nice. I'm kind of partial to the fastback, but the omni-vision is ok too.

I'll take any advice on what pre '66 models you folks like.

On barnstormers.com there is a '59 (N5636E) and a '60 (N6556T) for sale, I'd appreciate any first hand info anyone has about either one.

Thanks, Dave

Welcome Dave. Poobs is down your way, I believe. Maybe he will chime in.

It sounds like you have already figured out what you want. Now to just find it.

Welcome to the forum, Dave. I have a 152 so can't help much about the older 150s. Our exalted Grand Poobah Ed "Poobs" Pataky is in the Houston area. I'm sure he'll chime in soon.

Thanks Ed, when I track one down I'll need some suggestions for someone to do maintenance. I live in midtown Houston, but plan on keeping it at Hooks. Are you flying out of Weiser?

Hi David. The Ford Tri-Motor has been at our airport in West Memphis, AR (KAWM) the last couple of days. While out at the airport, my mechanic showed me a 1969 C-150 he has for sale. A full IRF (very nice) panel. He said (as I recall) the engine only has 100 hours on it. It came here from New Jersey, so it must be flyable smile. If interested, PM me and I will give you his contact information.

Hi David, and welcome! I just spent a few months looking at planes. Originally, I wanted a D or E model, with radios adequate for instrument training, low engine hours, good maintenance, close enough to me that I would be brave enough to fly it home (less than 3 hours away), and under 25K in price. I compromised on the radios, because I couldn't find them in the early models. I compromised on my desired models because I couldn't find ones close to me with low engine hours. I refused to go over my 25K price ceiling or my requirement for low engine hours. The closest I found to my imaginary perfect airplane turned out to be my J model, that was 2 hours away, low engine hours, VFR only radios, good maintenance and 24K. The compromises I made turned out to be just fine, and it suits me well enough. Based on the way the search went for me, you have to know what you want, and also what you'll be willing to compromise on.

Thanks everyone.

Yeah Geoff, getting a healthy plane is the most important thing for me. I'm willing to consider any model.

Stacey I sent you a PM.

Ed, it'd be great to meet up with you one of these days at Weiser.

Does anyone know if having the gear 2 inches forward on the '59-'60 models is that big of an issue?
