Hi All,

Thanks for all your help to date!

I have attached a few images of my possible purchase. I went up for a flight last weekend and found a few problems.

The big concern is there is visable corrosion on the trailing edge of both flaps. This airplane is about 10 miles from the coast of Massachusetts and is exposed to some salt air... What do you think of the attached picture? Is this just "surface deep" or will it require stripping, cleaning, painting, or are these flaps trash?

I also noticed a few problems with the radios. It has a full Narco stack. Currently Com1 has is inop, and the problem and service has yet to be completed. The com panel buttons were sticky and I needed to push the com2 button several times to get clear reception... The com panel is also missing a button. If I go forward with the purchase I would like to replace the buttons. What is the general feeling of how Narco to deal with? Do they charge a flat fee for simple items like this, or will they supply parts?

The DME readout also has some dead LEDs, not terminal but annoying...

I am worried that all these "bells and whistles" are going to cost me a lot of time and money.

I will attache 3 other photos in three additional emails. I can't see how to attach more than 1 picture per email. Is this possible?

What do you think?

Reagards,
Tim Hynes

Tim,

I can't open your attachments with any of several different viewers. They apparently aren't standard Jpeg's. What viewer are you using?

Tim,

(Wish I could view the photos you attached, but unlike most attachents to this site they had to be downloaded separately and my system could not view them.)

I purchased a mid west 152 that had been on the flight line for 10 years at Plymouth, MA. There were plenty of 1-2" areas of blistering which I dealt with by sanding, priming and painting.

At my APs suggestion the internal structure was treated with aerosolized Boshield which helps to prevent and retard corrosion.

Perhaps you can use the various squawks as a barganing tool towards either lowering the purchase price, or getting them resolved to your satisfaction (if there is no wiggle room in the sale price.)
