Buyer, me, would want to take used mag to the mag shop and have it gone through and put into service replacing my old Slick 447 magnetos. Both buyer and seller are club members and neither of us know what to price this mag at. I also don't know if the unknown hours matters. I would still need one more mag to match. We both appreciate your help. Note: edited, only one magneto for sale. I was thinking there was a pair of used mags.

I bought a pair of mags to get a discount on the whole package including harness and new plugs, but to be honest I didn't save all that much. The core that went back had started to misbehave, and I'm told a coil may have been failing, but other internal stuff looked pretty good. Coils are really expensive to replace, hence the purchase.
The still in the plane and running well mag was installed in 2009 as a used, total hours unknown mag that received new points and carbon brushes. My AI did what he recorded as a 500 inspection, gave it two thumbs up, and it has had 156.43 trouble free ours since. I don't need to sell it, but do have a new one the shelf I could replace it with. Neither of us knows what it should be worth and would like your opinions.

Cores are worth about $150 at most rebuilders, but this is not a core and worth much more. I've found new 4301's listed for about $975. I think most, like you and I, really have no idea what your mag is actually worth, especially with about 156 hours on it since inspection. 500 hour inspections are about $375-$400 on 4301's.
I'm guessing on value, no matter what price range I choose.
How about this: Core charge + 500 hour inspection - accumulated time. $150 + $400 - ($1.25/hr x 156hrs = $195) = $355 MINIMUM price, no impulse coupling or harness (and Eric pays shipping). Is that fair?
Doesn't really matter, as long as you are BOTH happy with the deal. | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 3 Member/15,000 posts | Member/15,000 posts Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 3 | C'mon, guys 'n gals!
