Hello All, I am looking for parts for my square tail. Specifically, I am looking for two brackets for the vertical Stab and Rudder, P/N's 0431001-6 and 0412175-1. Basically the holes where these attach have been elongated. Many thanks for looking and many more if you can help.

Chris

That looks like the spar reinforcement for the vertical stabilizer, and the bulkhead at the very tail end of the fuselage, correct?

I seem to recall that the bulkhead had four nutplates for attaching the vertical fin. Are those the holes that are enlarged?

In any event, I believe any straight-tail ('59 through '65) can be a donor.

Jim,

I need the parts seen in pictures 2 and 3 of this pdf attached. Picture 2 is of the bracket that attaches to the vertical stab spar

Thanks,

I wonder how the holes got enlarged? Was the vertical fin loose/floppy on a preflight inspection?

Hey Kirk,

The Vertical seemed ok, but I did notice that I had some play in my horizontal stab. I did a big inspection of the tail and then found one of the nose attach fittings cracked. Replaced that, still had the play. So I decided that the next step was to take the tail apart and have a better look. Unfortunately, I ran out of time at home before heading back out on the road, so I hired another mechanic to look at it, and that is what he found.

Hi again Jim,

Well thats a bummer. Thanks for looking just the same. I am thinking that I should post this in the Tech FAQ. It seems like somebody somewhere along the line has surely had this issue before. I am looking at repair options as new parts are too costly for the value of the airplane. It seems that one should simply be able to ream the holes and use oversize bolts or install bushings and use the correct hardware.
Anyway, thanks again for looking.

Chris

Perhaps you should contact Cessna to see if there is an approved repair for this, perhaps even a service letter.
