Hi all,

I am looking at the ‘61 A model that is listed on Barnstormers. I would appreciate and all advice about the early 150s. If anyon3 knows anything about this specific airplane I’m all ears. Pleasure to be here. This is my first airplane purchase.

Welcome! It would make it easier if you posted the N# of the plane and the current owners name, if possible. Or, post a link to the ad in Barnstormers. Lots of very knowledgeable people here. I'm sure somebody will be along with some info specific to the '61' model.

We're also a nosey bunch. Let us know your location and how far you would be willing to travel if a nice 150 is for sale in a members local area.

Hey, look, a NEW guy!

Welcome to the best type club on earth!

This link by Club member Charles Hanna contains a lot of information unique to the early, or straight-tail, 150s:

Can’t get the BS link to post right. Jason Menzies is the owner, N6671T. Search fir 150A on BS... it’s the only one. Orange/tan. Thanks!

THIS ONE? [barnstormers.com]

It looks like a nice clean airplane in the pictures.

We’re planning on buying it. Owner is an A&P and the last ~12 years’ worth of logs that he scanned and emailed to me look good. Dida few repairs, a few upgrades, and overall looks to be a solid and clean airplane. Hardest part might be figuring out how to get it home. I really can’t go out there and back very soon, so I will likely have to trust the owner (who flies it and has maintained it) has a great airplane for sale and buy it sight unseen.

I need to learn how to register it and do a title search, probably.

I love the form of the A model.

Welcome, Lachlan! Remember to match your airplane to your intended mission. Are the avionics what you'll need? Does it have mode C? Will you need to update it to ADS-B out soon? I'm sure you already thought of all that. Low time engine! Was it a field overhaul or an engine builder? Looks very nice in the pictures. Fun!

How to register an aircraft [faa.gov]

AOPA (and probably EAA too) offers Aircraft Title Search service. When I bought my plane in 2001, that service cost $100; don't know what the current cost is.

Make sure to have aircraft insurance in place as soon as the purchase is made, even if you won't be picking it up for a while or have someone ferry it.

Hopefully some club member located near where the plane is will offer to take a look at it for you. Even though the owner is an A&P, "trust but verify".
