I accidentally bought a Cessna 140 that had its right gear leg snap while being landed off runway. Prop strike and right wingtip are damaged. I've not seen it in person, but pictures show its not in horrible shape. It's complete with avionics, etc.

I'm really not in the mood to drive all the way to Pleasant Grove, CA to fetch it back to Tucson. (Plus, I just bought a crashed BAC Strikemaster that's going to be occupying my trailer for a while) If any club member would like to have this 140, please let me know.

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like there was a hole drilled through the gear leg, and the fracture line ran right through the center of it. I’m guessing (because that’s all I can do) that the hole may have been the start of a corrosion pit leading to metal fatigue.

Depends on how many times you can say "Yes, Dear..."

Pretty common. That hole is where the step attaches to the gear leg. There is either a service letter or AD about it.

The step was originally riveted on. You have to remove the rivets and clean the holes in the gear legs. After a through inspection, the step gets bolted back on with AN3 bolts. I think there is an inspection interval where you have to remove the steps and reinspect. I would have to go back and look it up to know for sure.

If you look closely, you can see the holes in Barfly's gear leg.

Twice in the last week. I also accidentally bought a BAC Strikemaster.

I throw out bids with the hope I don't win and it sometimes backfires on me.
