I have a 1965 Cessna 150 "E" model. As you can see from the picture (looking up from the ground) my rudder bell crank has some extensive corrosion and I would like to replace the bell crank. According to the parts manual the part number for this part is 0431003-1 and is used on all models. If you have one of these or know were I can get one please let me know. The bell crank is riveted to the bottom rib of the rudder. Ideally, I would like the whole bottom rib with the bell crank installed. My plane is a straight tail so the bottom rib of a later model might not fit so the bell crank would need to drill the rivets out. Thanks in advance.
Elliot

There are shops parting out 150s all the time, try searching on some of those websites. There are some ads worth calling from a brief look.

Would it be an option to remove it, bead blast it, treat it with the proper coatings and reinstall it?

Maybe Brian A. will chime in and share his thoughts on doing that?

I thought about that but the area that is corroded is half the original thickness so, that won't be an option. Woo Hoo!!! I just got a delivery of a bellcrank from Faeth Aircraft Parts. I ordered it yesterday. smile smile smile

Looks like Elliot already read my mind. Faeth Aircraft. No other option when a component is that corroded.

Hopefully the bottom rib assy and stiffener are not corroded.
You have a bit of a sheet metal project on your hands, but it doesn't look complicated at all. The rudder has to come off, then remove lower rib, drill off damaged bellcrank, treat all alum surfaces, primer, then install. Looks like all rivets can be done with access to both sides, blind fasteners not req'd. One day job, if nothing goes wrong/no surprises.

We'll need to polish some of the bellcrank were it had been striking the rudder stops. (Damn student pilots) smile We have access to a rivet squeezer and proper size rivets so, after everything is cleaned up, it should be pretty easy to assemble. I'll try to remember to take some pics. Can't say too many good things about Faeth aviation. Kenny Faeth is a good guy. This is the second part I have bought from him. The first was a fuel tank. Fair prices and he will guarantee his parts. laugh

We did exactly what you described Brian. When we got the bottom rib off we discovered the forward spar (just an aluminum channel) was broken at the bottom rib. Here are some pics. The first one shows the spar horizontally on the right of the pic. The second one shows the angle doubler that is broken. I'm not sure if this can be fixed. I might be giving Kenny Faeth another call. laugh I hope he or someone might have a rudder for a straight tail 150.
