Hello everyone!

I have been heavily involved with a new flight school that my friend is getting off the ground. He started with a single 150 but has grown his fleet to include 2 1956 172's and 2 PA32-160 Apache's . Well, today one his 172's had a cylinder failure in flight during a students lesson. Luckily they were only 6 nm away from the airport and were able to make a safe landing.

The engine is trashed and will need a major overhaul.

We are looking for a mid time O-300A to hang on the 172 to get it back in the air as soon as possible. Once we have it flying again, the plan is to overhaul the original engine and have it ready to swap back on when needed. The engine is original to the air-frame as it left the factory.

Any leads on a reasonably priced engine are greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Ouch.......that's some kinda ugly there James.

I'm of no help but best of luck with your engine search and it's nice to see you pop back in here, though I wish the circumstances were different.

Wow James. That is ugly!

One of the flight schools here had a cylinder failure on a C-172 just a couple of months ago. The CFI and student on board were also able to land safely in a field. Maybe the engine out practice isn't a waste of time afterall! smile
