I believe this was a Wayne Westerman design for a tie-down, but it's one that has worked well for me. Pound the long nails in at an angle and it should hold fast, similar to the "Claw" tie-down product.

I can't guarantee it'll work well in soft sand, but it has held tight in the soil in my slice of Alaska.

It's yours for the price of a USPS medium flat rate box.

Somebody coming to Clinton should grab this. It’s a proven design that works well in the soil at Clinton. Member Ken Yates is also donating two sets of a similar design. Maybe you’ll be lucky and win one of Ken’s sets, but Terry’s offer is a “bird in the hand”

Wayne gave me one of those sets. Worked very well in the grass parking area at Clinton.

I bought “The Claw” a few years back and forgot to bring it to Clinton last year. Thank Goodness there were no big storms, just forest fire smoke. This design is the same as the claw but without the hefty price tag. Strongly Recommend!

Finished 3 sets this morning. Gave away my last one to my son, so I needed a replacement. Will ship the other 2 to CWI, this week.

I might be able to ship it cheaper than a medium flat rate box if I use a padded envelope ... either way I'm willing to give this to anyone who needs it.

To save weight, I replaced the chains with wire rope:

That, and using 10 inch rather than 12 inch spikes saved about 3-1/2 lb.

The final complete kit including hammer, ropes, and bag weighs just six pounds.

I'll bring the chains and 12 inch spikes to Clinton and give them away if anyone wants them.

Great idea. Might try that. The units I made this year, using 1/4 inch chain, 18 inch stakes, and a 10 oz hammer, weighed in at 9.5 lbs with bag. A 3.5 lbs savings is significant.

I got the short handled hammer at Harbor Freight. It's adequate to drive and pull the stakes.

I used two different sizes of thimbles -- the ones at the spike ends have to be large enough for the spike to get through but small enough that the spike head can't. The ones at the top are large enough to easily get the rope through.

I'll haul the replaced chains and stakes to Clinton only if someone tells me before I leave that he or she wants them.

These tie-downs went to a new home, just in time or Clinton ... sorry I didn't post something here!
