For $5,000 less than that kind of money, you can get a really really pristine 150. For what you paid for it, I suggest you run, not walk from this deal. But be sure to keep us in the loop, we're all willing to sell our opinions for free!

Believe me, there are a lotta sharks in the water out there. I looked at several myself, went through the prebuy process, and still, there were a few issues that perhaps could've been avoided. Hindsight is 20-20. Read and Heed!!! Disinterested nechanic doing a COMPLETE prebuy - to annual tolerances and specifications. INSIST the mechanic be brutally honest. Yeah, it'll cost ya for the inspection. But, the money that you spend is MORE than made up in what you'll save in repairs and issues that might otherewise pop up down the road. It's a blast hunting for the perfect bird for you. Even more of a blast owning. Being able to come and go as you please - go where and when you want.... you get the idea. Hey... IT'S AN AIRPLANE FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD!!! ![[Linked Image from animatedimages.org]](https://www.animatedimages.org/data/media/218/animated-penguin-image-0137.gif) [ animatedimages.org] Imagine a united world. At this point I am planning to sell. I just didn't think I'll really have time do worry about it until spring. I'll be around for another 2 weeks or so, then I'll be away for work until around Thanksgiving (lots of travel for work being one reason for selling). Another reason being my special issuance medical (given out one year at a time) which I'm hoping shows up in the mail very soon. I've been expired since 30-SEP, so I can't fly anywhere to show it right now. Let me know if you or anyone else reading this might like to take a look. She's hangared so I have to be there for anyone to check it out. I haven't sat down to write up a spec sheet yet. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 5,951 Likes: 1 Member/5000+posts! | Member/5000+posts! Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 5,951 Likes: 1 | Martin, Welcome! Glad to have on board.
Here are a few rules that I use when shopping for an airplane: 1. Be patent. You have lived this long without an airplane and a few more days, weeks, or months won?t matter that much. Remember there are a lot 150s out there and one of them is right for you. Never fall in love with another man?s airplane, there will be plenty of time for that after you buy it. 2. Educate yourself. Read all that you can find on the make and model that you want to buy. You have come to a good place to begin your education; there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum and a lot more good information on the Club web site. 3. Know what the airplanes in the category that interest you are worth. A subscription to Trade-A-Plane on line will be worth the price to you if the only thing that you use is the NAAA evaluator to get a fix on the price range for planes that interest you. Look at the classified ads and learn what people are ASKING for their planes. Mike Arman?s book is a wonderful source of information on 150/152s, you can get one form the Club store. 4. Learn what to look for. Get acquainted with a good A&P and ask him what to look for in evaluating an airplane. (You are going to need a good and knowledgeable A&P when it comes time for the pre-purchase inspection.) 5. Have realistic expectations. You will be looking at airplanes that are most likely 30 to 40 years old. They are not new! On the other hand a dirty engine, dirty belly, cracked plastic, etc. speak volumes on the way that the airplane has been maintained. Don?t be fooled by a new paint job and/or new interior items. Look under the hood and kick tires. Lipstick sell ? to the foolish. 6. Get a ?buying buddy?. A second set of dispassionate eyes and the unbiased advice of a buying buddy will be of great value. Most likely there is a Club member near you that will be willing and able to help you out. 7. Ask questions. Listen to what the seller has to say and pay particular attention to what he doesn?t say. If the seller is trying too hard to sell that is a red flag. 8. Remember ALWAYS it is a buyer?s market. You have a large choice of airplanes to look at and he has only one to sell. You are always free to walk away. 9. Listen to your gut. If something does not seem right walk away. If something seems too good to be true walk away. Never buy an airplane that raises any questions in your mind or gut. 10. Get a pre-purchase inspection. It doesn?t matter if the airplane just came out of annual yesterday have YOUR mechanic look over the logs and the airplane. Have an agreement, in writing if possible, going in to the pre-purchase inspection that the seller will take care of any and all airworthiness issues. You will have to deal with the cosmetic items on your own.
Good luck and good hunting. | | |
