I've used a couple different ones but finally settled on FlyTies [flyties.com]. I feel like I've gotten my every cent's worth of the $100 I paid for them. Dale Larsen has a homemade set that is essentially the same thing as the flyties, and his cost a LOT less to make. I'd recommend taking a look at them at Clinton this year for inspiration if you're inclined to make things yourself.

Edit - with the Stanley hammer I threw in the bag (they don't come with one), the FlyTies weigh in at 9.34 lbs.

I use the FlyTie system that Brian does with the SlideDown LT Aircraft Tie Down System. That System runs about $45.00. Easy and secure.

Or you can order them directly from the manufacture (Who happens to be a club sponsor) HERE. [slidedown.com]

When using the slide down system what do you use as the anchor in the ground.

The FlyTie System.

Buy both. One goes in the ground (FlyTie) the other goes from the ground anchor to the wing/tail (Slide Down System).

I know I have brought it up before, but I struggle with endorsing the slide-down. Maybe I am stupid, but when I lock mine in they are nice and tight, but after any kind of blow they just loosen up. Not a huge problem at Clinton since you are around your plane all the time and can keep an eye on things. But as a permanent solution where the airport is a fair drive and the plane sits there for days/weeks/months frown it just proved too risky. I went back to ropes.

I purchased a Claw system at Oshkosh in 2017 and have never had cause to use it frown But the guy I flew to OskKosh with (Mooney) had the Claw and I was "charged" with installing it and securing the plane - that Claw is awesome! I can't imagine it ever pulling out unless the ground is soup. A brilliantly simple design. THAT I can endorse.

Sure wish I could get to Clinton, but it just isn't in the cards.

Eric,

Too bad you can't make Clinton. I would like to meet you in person.

I've never met a snowman before! Get the heck out of there before you get frozen to the ground.

I have the claw system but forgot to pack it last year headed to Clinton. Fortunately was able to borrow tie downs from the club. No big storms last year thankfully.
