Thanks Dave. Guess I didn't know where to find the link to the page. I was looking on the club webpage where the registration tab is. Where does it live?

If I make it, this will be my first Clinton fly-in.

But I'm curious. For those in the know, about what percentage of those who make plans actually get there?

I've been to the Clinton Fly-In over 15 times, and I usually printed out a list of people who registered so I could try to meet the first-timers. Mark or Kirk can find the actual stats, but I guess on a good year (without major weather issues) about 80-90% actually get there. People planned all year for the trip, paid for registration, lodging, so they try hard to get there. There are always some people who didn't show due change in their schedules, unexpected family situations, mechanical problems, etc. 2021 was particularly bad, with poor weather over many parts of the country, my guess is only 60-70% made it there last year. It was sad to see the pile of unclaimed registration packets.

I’m looking forward to it as a first timer.

I have been to the fly in 14 times but have made 16 attempts.
The first time I started out for the Confab was in 2005 but only made it a little more than half way. It was a very hot summer and I didn’t plan properly and started to feel I’ll so I turned back for home.
The second time I didn’t get there was 2010 when I had mag failure near Binghamton NY. Spent 3 days there before we continued on for Clinton.
Spent 2 nights in Tiffin OH due to 40 mph headwinds.
Then it was predicted to rain for the next 3 days so we headed for home before we got stuck there.
My suggestion is to give yourself a day or two extra for travel time because the weather can play havoc with your plans.
Coming from MA I always take 2 days to actually travel.
Trying not to fly when it’s too hot or bumpy.

As some say YMMV.

I am eight for eight. And eight for eight getting back home! So far so good.

But I have not always made it in one day. About 50/50. It is 818 miles as the 150 flies. I think my best trip was leaving Clinton at 7am (that's 8 am as soon as you hit the Mississippi River) and landing in Greenville at 5:00 that afternoon, 9 hours. Quick fuel stops and a solid tail wind all the way.

Shortest trip: 818 miles returning home in 2015
Longest trip: 1,382 miles to Clinton in 2015
Shortest round trip: 1,686 miles in 2019.
Longest round trip: 2,201 miles in 2015.

2015 had my longest trip (getting to Clinton) and my shortest trip (getting home). Crazy weather that year.

Best trip: 1st trip out with Amy and her Mom!
Worst trip: None really, but a few have been more adventurous than others.

Best flyin? That's easy. My first one. I learned more about how to fly the 150 in 3 days than in all my training hours combined. It's ok to fly at 2,650 rpms not the 2,400 they told you in flight school. And I gained confidence that you really can fly cross county in a 150. And you can pop up to 7,500 ft to catch that tail wind.

Hoping to see everyone in forty some days.

PS: A little tip. It's best to fly with someone who is on their first trip. That way you can stick them with the tab at lunch. (Not to mention any names but Joseph comes to mind).

Terry, Illinois is entirely in the Central time zone. You don't "hit" the Eastern time zone until just a little east of the Indiana/Illinois state line.
