Welcome James! I was in your shoes a little more than 1 year ago. After a 10 year hiatus, I re-obtained my medical, did a BFR, joined a club and got back into flying. I also got my IFR with the club's plane. But I was getting frustrated with how much I was spending on renting a 4 seater plane while flying 90% of the time by myself.
I started to research and decided to give a C150 a chance. Found a couple in the local market, went to see one for sale that was in good shape, even though it was almost an antique (C-150D from 1964), fell in love with it and here we are, after 7 months together, I've put 230 hrs on her. I've landed her on 11 states and look forward to land her on at least 37 more states unless I find the time to also land her in Alaska.
I would like to have a plane with IFR capabilities but for that, I can always rent from the club.
I love how affordable it is to fly her.
At the beginning, I thought I would develop a need for speed. But with her current pace, I get to enjoy the view at all phases given that everything goes really slow.
I already registered for the Clinton, IA flyin-in in July and find myself fantasizing on the potential routes and how many additional states I will add to her landing list.
I really love my Mosquito!
And rest assured that a major part of my experience comes from belonging to this fine club and the experiences shared by all its members.
Good luck with your plans and keep us posted with your decision and what comes next.
