I just spent some time with a Sky Master owner, 22 gal/hour is pretty close. In fact it is sitting outside my apartment door next to my washer/dryer, I'll post pix. What an amazing airplane, it's a MTX hog, but what a cool ship.

Metal tanks like a 150.
I believe the military version (at least the 0-2A), had self-sealing fuel bladders. Whether they were inside the metal tanks or replaced them, I'm not sure. I don't remember seeing an 0-2, although I'm sure they were out there.

Why does it have "hot props"? I dont see any other anti ice equipment.

You can't haul around a load of ice accidentally if you can't power the plane. I think prop deice is the most important tool for ice flight.

That sounds like a false sense of security...

It's not a good idea to take a plane with only prop deice into known icing, but if I had to choose between prop deice and wing deice, I'd choose prop.

In theory, it is better to have a clean prop over the wings, but that only lasts so long... I wonder how many pilots realize the danger they face with tailplane ice. It often gathers at an accelerated rate compared to the wings, and in many planes (like TBM 700s) the tail is not visible. Trot along on autopilot long enough with your head up your backside and all of a sudden (from the pilot's perspective) the autopilot goes off and the plane goes all over the sky, uncommanded. Sound like fun?

As far as why the heated prop with no other protection, it is the same reason as having TKS on a Cirrus with no known-ice certification (besides Cirrus not wanting to pay for the process of certifying it....I assume they're still not known-ice at this point)...it'll help get you out of the clag and into the clear. Better just to stay out, but crap happens. When it does, it's a tool to keep the occupants of the aircraft in one piece.
