Future resale value for a 152 will certainly increase if the new LSA weight rules are ratified. Even if not, I personally think the lower total cost of ownership of a 2-place aircraft like a 150 or 152 over the entire period of ownership vs a 4-place 172 will more than offset any difference in resale value you might see. It all boils down to your mission, and whether or not you can afford and are willing to pay the additional cost of owning a larger, slightly faster airplane.

There's a pilot at our field that owned an RV-10, also owns a Bonanza and a Sundancer LSA motorglider. He sold the RV-10 a couple years ago and mainly only flies the Bonanza, but the insurance on it is really getting him. He's kicking himself for selling the two-seat RV-10 and keeping the 6-seat Bonanza, all because the TCO is so much higher. But it trues out at 160+ knots.

If the goal is to acquire the maximum money out of life, airplane ownership is a big loser. Boats are even worse. If the goal is to live a life rich in experiences, aircraft ownership is good value.

I agree with you Geoff! Money is only beneficial in the way you spend it.

If Cindy knew how much money Jim "really" spent on his airplanes, she would kick him out of her house grin

Hung the real secret is that they are really Ms Cindy’s planes. She just lets Jim wash and clean them. And occasionally fly one.

Good wife, good friends & a Cessna 150. Life is good.
