Not that I'd ever do something illegal. But if I were to, I'd put the unapproved spinner on provided that it is every bit as safe and is difficult to tell from the correct one. Then it would disappear before the plane is sold. Isn't there a reg somewhere that lets you fabricate a part for your plane if you cannot locate the correct one? What if you "fabricate" it out of a piece of aluminum that is already shaped something like a spinner? I'm just as frustrated with the regs as anyone else. But, it is probably best not to poke the hornets nest. If they ask for your aircraft logs and you make them fight for them, they'll be sure to find plenty of problems. The trick is to fly under the radar and avoid the whole problem in the first place. | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 3 Member/15,000 posts | Member/15,000 posts Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 3 | Hehehe! just get the FAA approved part, bite the bullet 'n' be done with.
Play by the rules. It's one less headache and potential issue. Probably the best advice yet.

Repeat as often as necessary under you fell airworthy. The last time I repeated that until I fell, I sure didn't feel airworthy! You intended the pun, didn't you! Dang you caught me. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,134 Member/1500+posts | Member/1500+posts Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,134 | Bill, that does not allow you to certify non-approved parts. And you know it......... Please don't provide mis-information to the un-knowing readers of this board, who might fall for this....
I know you are simply baiting other knowledgeable readers on this board to offer comment and complaint, but others may not understand this.
Charles Darn, I fell for it again

Charles Well?? Since feathers are getting ruffled I suppose................... My most sincere and deepest apologies to any that took my first posting about the log book entry as being legal and legitimate................ As far as the FAA requesting log books...............well??............. I had a good discussion today on this very topic with fellow pilots. Wish you had been there, Tim! But? To keep the peace here I'll let that one slide, for now. | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 9,819 Likes: 131 Member/7500+posts | Member/7500+posts Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 9,819 Likes: 131 | While y'all are passing the peace pipe, can I have a puff?

If we could only have a conversation here without..........( Shut up, Bill!) But........( SHUT UP, BILL)Sigh...... OK! Y'all win! Yea! Have a puff, Gary!! Obviously the likes of you and me were standing in the wrong line when we recieved our A&P's! It has been a feast as far as food for thought and has left my head a spinnin'...maybe if I could attach that onto the prop it would be a cheaper solution but then what would prop up my hair? After much thought and reflection I have chosen to bend over and purchase the approved parts from the least expensive sources I could find. After all, to attach the forward spinner bulkhead, the prop bolts have to be removed and my A&P has to do that job (or has to supervise me if I do it) and that would put him in a precarious position. I could not ask him to sign off on a project on my aircraft using non approved parts. I believe the prices I am paying for my spinner and most other parts we all pay for in General Aviation is a reflection of the litigious society in which we live in. After all, if a moron gets in an aircraft and does something stupid, it's not his fault...the blame lies squarely on Cessna, Continental or Lycoming, Precision Airmotive, the people on the ground, his mother, father and all of his ancestors and previous acquaintances... Sorry...I forgot to breathe... Again, Thank you to all ... I Love this Club
