And....if you must install unapproved parts, don't talk about it on an online forum. wink

Not that I'd ever do something illegal. But if I were to, I'd put the unapproved spinner on provided that it is every bit as safe and is difficult to tell from the correct one. Then it would disappear before the plane is sold.

Isn't there a reg somewhere that lets you fabricate a part for your plane if you cannot locate the correct one? What if you "fabricate" it out of a piece of aluminum that is already shaped something like a spinner?

I'm just as frustrated with the regs as anyone else. But, it is probably best not to poke the hornets nest. If they ask for your aircraft logs and you make them fight for them, they'll be sure to find plenty of problems. The trick is to fly under the radar and avoid the whole problem in the first place.

Play by the rules. It's one less headache and potential issue.

Probably the best advice yet.

Well?? Since feathers are getting ruffled I suppose...................

My most sincere and deepest apologies to any that took my first posting about the log book entry as being legal and legitimate................

As far as the FAA requesting log books...............well??.............

I had a good discussion today on this very topic with fellow pilots. Wish you had been there, Tim!

But? To keep the peace here I'll let that one slide, for now.

I want to thank everybody for their thoughts and opinions on this matter. It has been a feast as far as food for thought and has left my head a spinnin'...maybe if I could attach that onto the prop it would be a cheaper solution but then what would prop up my hair?
After much thought and reflection I have chosen to bend over and purchase the approved parts from the least expensive sources I could find. After all, to attach the forward spinner bulkhead, the prop bolts have to be removed and my A&P has to do that job (or has to supervise me if I do it) and that would put him in a precarious position. I could not ask him to sign off on a project on my aircraft using non approved parts.
I believe the prices I am paying for my spinner and most other parts we all pay for in General Aviation is a reflection of the litigious society in which we live in. After all, if a moron gets in an aircraft and does something stupid, it's not his fault...the blame lies squarely on Cessna, Continental or Lycoming, Precision Airmotive, the people on the ground, his mother, father and all of his ancestors and previous acquaintances... mad

Sorry...I forgot to breathe... whistle

Again, Thank you to all ...

I Love this Club grin
